How much does yard grading cost in Little Rock?
Most residential grading and drainage jobs in Central Arkansas start around $1,500 and run to $5,000 or more. The number moves with how much dirt has to move, how far it has to be hauled, whether access is tight, and whether the fix needs pipe and structures or just a regrade. Do I need a French drain, or will regrading fix it?
Regrading is the cheaper fix and it's the right one more often than people expect. If water is running across the surface and there's somewhere lower to send it, a regrade handles it. You need a french drain system when there is a ground water element causing issues. Ill be able to tell you before the bid which solution is best. 501-680-1078.
My neighbor's yard drains onto my property. Can grading fix it?
Usually yes, and it's one of the most common calls we get in Central Arkansas. The fix is regrading your side to catch that water and carry it to a swale, ditch, or street outlet before it reaches your foundation. If the volume coming off the uphill lot is more than a surface grade can handle, you'll need a piped system instead. I'll tell you which one you're dealing with when I look at it. How long does a grading and drainage job take?
Most residential regrades run one to three days on site. Add pipe, catch basins, or a French drain and it's closer to three to five. Larger lots or heavy haul-off go longer. Weather is the variable nobody controls. I won't grade saturated ground, because dirt moved wet won't compact and you'll be calling somebody about it in a year. You get a real timeline with the bid, not a guess.
What's the best time of year for grading and drainage work in Arkansas?
Late summer through fall, when the ground is dry enough to shape and compact correctly. Spring is the hardest season here because saturated ground won't hold a grade. Winter is usually fine in Central Arkansas since hard freezes are short. The mistake is waiting until you have standing water in spring to call, because that's when everyone calls and the ground is least workable. If you know you have a problem, get on the schedule before the wet season.
How much slope does my yard need to drain properly away from my house?
In Central Arkansas, where heavy rain events are common, we typically recommend erring toward more slope rather than less. If your yard is flat, settled, or slopes back toward the house, water will find its way into your foundation eventually. That's the problem grading solves; before it becomes a waterproofing problem.
